BluCon Biotech GmbH is a company in the field of industrial biotechnology. It is developing a new and unique process for the economical and at the same time sustainable production of L-lactic acid from agricultural or forestry production residues.

The aim is to produce L-lactic acid at the lowest possible production costs in order to make the bioplastic polylactic acid (PLA) commercially competitive with plastics based on fossil fuels. For example, non-biodegradable, petro-based packaging plastics are to be replaced by both bio-based and biodegradable plastic PLA.

BluCon Biotech GmbH was founded in 2017 and is based on the BioCampus in Cologne.
